2nd Lani update today

Praise the Lord! Lani has gained over a pound in the past 36 hours or so! She actually ate from a bowl today and is drinking like she’s been in the desert for days! She’s hopping & running and wrestling, too.

I’m breathing more easily and am thanking the Lord Jesus for answered prayer.

She’s a very sweet dog and continues to win our hearts with her playful manner and how she loves to nap on laps.

Another Lani update

It’s about 3:30a.m. and I’ve just finished taking Lani out for a potty run (checking her feces for worms, of course) and rejoicing that she is drinking and eating - almost on her own. She’s finally asleep, but was very lively for a bit after eating and doing her potty business.

She actually chased me around the office and did some of that typical “puppy hop.” What a joy to see her acting more like a normal puppy. She seems to have gained some weight and her boniness is slowly disappearing. I’m relieved and rejoicing.

I’m also exhausted. Every 2 hours, she has to eat. Then she goes out for a potty run. When she comes back in, she wants to play for a while. I think I’m getting a feel for what new mothers must go through - but it lasts months for them. Hmm, thanks Mom for putting up with all of the typical stuff with a newborn and for all of the extras that I put you through with the cleft palate surgeries and all. It’s a wonder you didn't fade away from exhaustion!

More on Lani later after we visit the vet.

Lani update - 2

Ugh. Just got back from the vet. She said that Lani is anemic and probably has worms. She gave her 2 shots - 1 was a super B-vitamin complex and the other was an Iron booster. She also gave her some paste that will make Lani either vomit the worms up or pass them out of her system. She was VERY concerned for Lani’s well-being - especially since Lani is only 10 weeks old.

We have to also force feed her and force her to drink by putting food & water into a syringe and squirting it into her mouth. This we have to do every 2 hours. It’s going to be a looooong night.

......

I left Lani with Linda and took a drive to the hardware store. I can’t bear the thought of losing another dog so soon after losing Hero. The feelings and emotions are too raw and my heart is heavy with the possibility of having to grieve the loss of Lani.

Lani update

Lani’s not doing well. She’s not eating and she’s losing weight. She’s lethargic and does nothing but sleep. I’m taking her to the vet today ‘cause this is just not right.
